The previous two chapters looked at the significance of search engines in shaping the information society and deepening its digital divide. This chapter explores the various information uses in Google more specifically, identifying the opportunities and limitations of online search. The assumption lying behind this examination is that the increasing use of search engines inevitably creates more hierarchies and inequalities as a result of different information skills and abilities in manipulating online information.
