Armin Hofmann (b. 1920) began his career in
1947 as a teacher at the Allegmeine Gewer-
beschule Basel School of Art and Crafts (later
known as Schule fur Gestaltung or AGS) at the
early age of twenty-six. He followed Emil Ruder
(1914–1970), Swiss typographer, graphic de-
signer, and educator, as the head of its graphic
design department and was instrumental in
developing the graphic design style known as
the International Style or Swiss School.
