The North Hollywood Pump Station, designed
by architects Barton Phelps & Associates (est.
1984), is a massive poured and cast concrete
box adjacent to the Hollywood Freeway in Los
Angeles. The 1.7-acre (0.69 ha) facility houses
eleven turbine pumps that provide much of the
water for central Los Angeles via aqueduct
from snow runoff in the Sierra Nevada Moun-
tains 340 miles (547 km) away.
