The 1939 New York World’s Fair was in Flushing
Meadows Corona Park in New York City and was
the second-largest American world’s fair of all
time, exceeded only by St. Louis’s Louisiana Pur-
chase Exposition of 1904. It covered 1,216 acres
(4.9 sq km) and was attended by more than 5
million visitors during its two-year period.
The fair, dubbed “Building the World of
Tomorrow,” symbolically marked the end of the
Great Depression and was themed as a celebra-
tion of American industry and progress. ...
