Manufacturing
Abstract
This chapter describes the engineering aspects in the manufacture of graphitic nanofibers (GN). It starts with a description of the use of methane as the feed hydrocarbon source (identifying it as the most economically viable source). The advantages and disadvantages of methane use are highlighted and a case for lowering costs by deriving methane from waste sources such as landfill gas, anaerobic digester gas and solid waste gasifier product is made. The factors affecting reactor design such as minimum fluidization velocity; catalyst size; agglomeration; and reactor types are each discussed with a focus on GN production. The chapter concludes with some of the authors’ own experience in reactor design and a section ...
