at high temperature (125–320°C) and pressure (0.5–20 MPa) conditions for the treatment of
hazardous, toxic and nonbiodegradable wastewater steams. They suggested that the pro-
cess becomes self-sustaining when the efuent has a COD of 20,000 mg/L and can be a net
energy producer at sufciently high feed COD. All the information published on WAO was
analysed and presented in a coherent manner. In addition to the industrial applications,
some other aspects (such as various catalysts and oxidising agents) of WAO have also been
discussed. Recommendations and suggestion for further research have been enlisted. The
