This week saw the first beet harvest and it was certainly worth the wait! Of the seeds I sowed, 20 or so plants grew to maturity, and they store well in the ground, so I will lift the roots as and when I plan to eat them between now and the start of November. I always recommend beets. It is one of the easiest vegetables to grow and always tastes noticeably better than anything you can buy in a store. I can feel that the garden is now going into rest mode with everything slowing down for winter, but at least I will have time to tackle some big projects, such as creating new growing areas.
