1The Basic Chords: Major, Minor, and Seventh

THE MAIN TYPES OF CHORDS ARE MAJOR, MINOR, AND SEVENTH. If you become comfortable with these, it’s fairly easy to go to fancier chords. A major chord can be indicated with a letter: C stands for the C major chord. E indicates the E flat major chord. Sometimes a major chord is indicated with “Maj” or an upper case “M” after the letter. C, CMaj, and CM all mean the C major chord.
