1 Introduction—What Is Design?
The term design has different meanings in various fields, such that to understand the type of design being talked about, one needs to understand the philosophy behind the design, its function and timing within the design process. Bruce Archer, a famous 20th-century designer and engineer defines design as follows.
Design is the field of human experience, skill, understanding and imagination that is concerned with the conception, and realisation of new things and events and particularly with man’s appreciation and adaptation of his surroundings in the light of his material and spiritual needs.
