The Complex Face of Video Research

1. Introduction

Video is becoming an indispensable tool in education research, capturing detail and complexity in teaching and learning situations that other data collection approaches cannot. Yet with these advantages come new considerations for each step of the research process. Here we describe how video has helped researchers document and study complex technology-rich learning environments, and summarize experts’ thinking about how video research is best conducted and reported.
