Risk preference and other behavioral tendencies such as trust and time preference
are widely estimated in field experiments. Cardenas et al. (2008) survey this fast-growing
literature and take note of the substantial overlap in inferred measures of risk aversion
between studies done in different areas. They conclude: “Overall, there does not seem
to be much support for the idea that poor people in developing countries are more risk
averse than richer people in developed countries.”
