The foundation domain covers the essence and the actual meaning of a project while bringing it to a more strategic level. Before you commit to start any important initiative, the elements of this domain must be well defined and endorsed by the organization. Skipping this step will greatly increase the chances of project failure. The key elements you’ll want to obtain for the foundation of a project include the following: clarity around the why (the purpose) of the project, buy-in and resources from the organization, commitment and time from leadership, and engagement from the project sponsor and members of the project team.
