For all the enthusiastic leadership posts that demand we “bring our whole self to work,” most of us leave a big and important piece of ourselves at home every day: our mental health. Despite many positive developments around physical wellness in both leadership models (like fostering psychological safety and being a servant leader) and amenities (like standing desks and flexible hours), there is still a stigma associated with talking openly about mental health. There’s endless literature on how to be more productive, defuse conflict, and get paid what you’re worth, and precious little insight on how we humans can be fully human in one of the places we spend a great deal of time: work. ...
