Initiating a Visit with an Ambulatory Provider

Scheduling a visit with a practice has traditionally required the patient or their representative to call the office and speak with a staff member. Increasingly patients are scheduling visits through patient portals, which are electronic tools that allow patients to remotely access the clinic’s scheduling software to book an appointment. In either case, the practice will have scheduling software that may be a stand-alone application or one that is integrated with other electronic tools such as a practice management system or an EHR.
