HIPAA and HITECH Act Overview
The purpose of this chapter is to summarize the requirements of the HIPAA administrative simplification provisions, Privacy and Security Rules, HITECH Act requirements, and what rules take precedence when state laws differ from HIPAA and HITECH. The listed requirements can be referred to when reviewing existing privacy and security programs and regulatory compliance.
Covered entities are required to adhere to the complete HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules as modified by the HITECH Act.
