HIT Trust Framework

Trustworthiness can never be achieved by implementing a few policies and procedures and some security technology. Trustworthiness requires a complete HIT trust framework that starts with an objective assessment of risk. This risk assessment must be conscientiously applied throughout the development and implementation of policies, operational procedures, and security safeguards built on a solid system architecture. This trust framework is depicted in Figure 24-1 and comprises seven layers of protection, each of which is dependent on the layers below it (indicated by the arrows in the figure), and all of which must work together to provide a trustworthy HIT environment for healthcare delivery.
