31. Rice is nice

Don’t be put off by rice’s ‘difficult’ reputation. Kids will love this versatile food.

A delicious, low fat carbohydrate food, packed with vitamins – cooking with rice really can be child’s play.

Perfect Rice

The ideal accompaniment to curry, chilli con carne, roast vegetables, stir fries, stewed chicken and even grilled fish.

  • Basmati is the best rice to use for separate, fluffy grains.
  • Always use a measuring jug, rather than the scales, to work out how much rice and liquid you need. It’s one part rice to two parts liquid. For a child, that’s roughly 55ml/2fl oz of rice per person to 110ml/4fl oz liquid.
