You might have heard horror stories about fiendish instruments being used during delivery. Here’s the bottom line (so to speak).
If problems crop up while your baby is on its way down your birth canal, your doctor might well reach for some instruments – forceps or a ventouse – to help things along.
Many women who have had assisted deliveries have felt that they did not know enough about the procedures used, and could not make informed choices. As forceps and ventouse extraction is only used when there is a problem, you may feel that you are being swept along by events.
