Your postnatal check up – what to expect and how not to laugh when they ask about contraception!
After you’ve had your baby and the dust has settled, you’ll be invited to see your doctor for a postnatal check up.
Some places carry out the check six weeks after you give birth; others now carry out the check at eight weeks after your baby was born. This means your check up can be combined with your baby’s first immunisations.
Your doctor will start by asking questions. Are you having any unusual discharge or breast discomfort? Have your periods started again? Are you feeding the baby yourself – in which case, your periods probably won’t have restarted.
