Chapter 7Adding Animation

One way to make your Android application more interesting and entertaining is to add animation. When done tastefully, animation can help turn a ho-hum program into something exciting and vibrant.

Instead of having things appear abruptly on the screen, have them fly or bounce in. Instead of a static background, bring it to life with a little movement. This is especially needed for games that are supposed to be fun anyway. Don’t overdo it, though—the animation should add to the experience, not distract from it.

In this chapter we’ll add two animated elements to the Tic-Tac-Toe game. First we’ll put a scrolling background underneath the main menu. Then we’ll make the tiles bounce around when you touch them.
