Run the Tic-Tac-Toe program now and it should appear in the Nexus 4 emulator. Unfortunately it doesn’t look very good, as you can see in the figure. (Wipe that grin off your face.)

Start a game by pressing the New Game button; everything looks fine until we make a move. Then all the empty squares go black, as the figure shows.

So how do you fix problems like this?

One technique you can use is to try it on newer and newer versions of Android until you find one that works. If you do that, you’ll see that the smearing problem goes away with Android 4.3 and the black squares are fixed in version 4.2. You could use that knowledge ...
