While some work is involved in moving from a traditional, situational, or brainteaser format to a competency-based one, the good news is that the format will endure until the competencies for the position change. This means that if you conduct interviews on a quarterly basis for a particular position, you will be able to use the identical interview forms every time, until the competencies for the position change. Even if some of the competencies change, it is a matter of replacing that part of the interview process rather than starting over from scratch.
