ONE OF MY clients was a major international accounting firm, perhaps the largest in the world, with 120,000 employees in dozens of countries. The company’s managers told me of an internal study they had conducted covering thousands of employees who had worked with them over a thirty-year period, going back to their first interviews. The study examined why they decided to hire each candidate in the first place and the success of each candidate over the years.
