The Zen of Firing

ALMOST EVERYONE gets fired at one time or another during the course of a career. And almost everyone has to fire someone in the course of a career. The Zen of firing refers to the expression, “What goes around comes around.” If you have to fire a person, remember that there is a law of sowing and reaping in the universe. This is the iron law of human destiny, which is never broken.

When you fire a person, be fair. Be kind. Be generous and empathetic. Err on the side of gentleness and compassion. When you have to fire a person, you are in a position of tremendous power. Recognize this, and don’t abuse it.
