About the concept of a balancedtourist development
Don't consider the promotion of tourism an endin itself nor a panacea – strive for a diversifiedeconomic structure – avoid a ‘single-crop’ economy
This proposal refers to an aspect of development which is almost never discussed in tourist target areas: that more tourism, i.e. more arrivals, more restaurants, more souvenir shops, more beds, more transport capacity, and more foreign exchange earnings – whatever the yardsticks used for measuring growth, they do not automatically mean greater well-being.
