In Sections I and II the technology and methods of recording optical Mach–Zehnder reference beam and shearing holograms on photographic films have been accurately analyzed for the purpose of using these two optical approaches for diagnostics of phase objects in the fields of noncoherent laser–matter interaction and gas-dynamic applications. It was shown that the recording holograms and subsequent optical reconstruction and studying signal waves are not cumbersome and are effective for retrieving phase data on different phase objects.
