4.4.3. Shrinkage and Warpage

The thermal behavior of thermoplastic unfilled polymers is like that of most materials characterized by thermal expansion. This thermal expansion is not constant over the temperature and it can be determined by the p-v-T-diagram of the polymer (Section 3.5.2). Semicrystalline polymers especially show a significant change of thermal expansion by temperature. Compared to typical mold inserts fabricated from metal, the thermal expansion of polymers is significantly higher than the thermal expansion of metals.
