7.2.2. Drive Unit

To implement the requirements of the precise motion between substrate plate and mold insert, it is obvious to reduce the motion to only one crossbar. Depending on the integration of the drive unit, in most cases the bottom crossbar will be moved against the fixed crossbar on top. Two concepts of drive mechanism are implemented in commercial hot embossing machines—a mechanical spindle drive and, as an alternative for large hot embossing machines, a hydraulic drive.
