The operation principle can be illustrated for the main steps of hot embossing: heating, molding, and demolding.

8.6.2.1. Heating

In Fig. 8.24, the process steps required for heating the semifinished foil are represented schematically. The initial situation (A) shows the tool area close to the cavity with the cooling blocks, mold inserts, and clamping rings for the semifinished product, and the semifinished foil supplied. The cooling blocks are set to a constant temperature far below the demolding temperature of the semifinished plastic product. While the semifinished product is heated, the mold inserts that have been lifted off the cooling blocks and, thus, separated thermally, are heated up to molding temperature. ...
