Wanting more space is probably the primary reason for moving or reconfiguring a property. Moving is expensive. In London, for example, in November 2021, the median price for a one-bedroom property was £400,000. For two bedrooms it was £575,000; for three bedrooms £775,000 and for four bedrooms £1,050,000.¹ In other words, all things being equal, the cost of moving somewhere with an extra bedroom was around £200,000.
