Modulation

Modulation is the process of adding information from a signal wave to a carrier wave in order to improve the overall transmission quality. Modulation is also performed so that two signals can be transmitted over different carriers to allow simultaneous transmissions (such as in 2-way voice communication). In addition, using high frequency carrier waves allows us to employ antennae of relatively small size. If a signal were not modulated, it could require enormously large antennae. Can you imagine a cell phone or walkie-talkie with a 300-foot antenna?
