If you're looking for a no-brainer way to set up an AP for a free wireless network, check out the free Community Gateway from http://www.sputnik.com/products/gatewaydownload.html. This customized Linux distribution offers a soup-to-nuts mechanism for turning your old hardware into a complete hotspot portal tuned to the Sputnik system.
