26. The demon drink: your teen and alcohol
For most teens, alcohol is the number one drug of choice. They use it without thinking twice, and see it all around them on sale in supermarkets, corner shops and restaurants. They see it used by their parents at home.
So how do we teach them that alcohol is in fact a potentially dangerous drug, to be treated with caution?
Teenagers use alcohol more frequently and in greater quantities than all other drugs combined. The danger is that we turn a blind eye to most drinking behaviour in our teenage children, relieved that it is ‘only’ alcohol, rather than illegal drugs such as cannabis or cocaine.
