Psychological Readiness

Abstract

This chapter discusses the importance of psychological readiness and resilience and specific methods to achieve these critical preparations. Techniques include Dr. Merritt Schreiber’s Anticipate, Plan and Deter system and his PsySTART psychological triage for general disaster victims and disaster volunteers. It covers strategies for proactively managing the effects of disaster response related stress. The chapter case study examines the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.
