Abstract

The chapter describes the initial actions that should be taken when activated for a disaster deployment including the concept of a tactical pause to ensure methodical response. It gives an overview of the stages of team building and tools for encouraging team members to get to know one another. It has instructions for the first 24–48 hours in the disaster zone. It has an organization profile of the Tzu Chi Foundation and a case study of the 2012 Haiti Earthquake.
