For most data jobs, your résumé is your only chance to make a good enough impression on the hiring team to get the chance to talk to a real person. So it is important!
The Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is often the tool that employers use to scan your résumé to see if you have the skills and experience they are looking for. The ATS may screen out applicants who do not meet their requirements. You will see all kinds of “ATS hacks” all over the Internet if you look for advice on writing a good résumé.
One of the popular “hacks” is to copy the entire job description and paste it into your résumé at the bottom. Then make the text all white and turn it to a size 0. According to this “hack,” the system will pick up on every single keyword that it is looking for and automatically highlight you as a star candidate.
However, I have seen multiple HR professionals respond to this hack and call it not only bad, but stupid. Many of those systems will make those words normal sized and black, and display them in the PDF of your application. That is embarrassing.
