Getting support and developing your skills
Coaching and leading a team is not an easy task and it is well worth thinking about the support and development you need in your role. Professional coaches have what is known as supervision. They will work with another coach or group of coaches to help them improve their coaching practice. This also provides the opportunity to discuss some of the challenges they face and to reflect on how to move ahead. In addition, most professional coaches will make sure that each year they update their skills and knowledge in some way. There are a number of support mechanisms you can use as shown in Figure 21.1.
