Drug and alcohol testing

Because of their concern about the effect that alcohol and drug abuse has on productivity, some employers may require you to provide a urine sample that will be tested for drugs and alcohol. These tests are still quite rare in the UK but are common in the USA, so they are probably more likely to be encountered if you are applying to the UK affiliate of a large US company. Of course you can always refuse – but if you do so then you’ll almost certainly eliminate yourself.
