Communicating your future perfect idea
So you have your future perfect idea, but how do you communicate it? If you launch into your 200-page PowerPoint presentation, you are not likely to succeed. Inflicting death by bullet point is not a good way to treat your team. Equally, if you stand on your desk and announce ‘I have a dream …’, your team may quietly arrange some psychiatric help for you.
Fortunately, you do not need to be a great orator like Pericles, Churchill or Martin Luther King. All you need to be able to do is tell a story, and we can all do that. It should be a simple story, in three parts:
- This is where we are and why we must change.
- This is where we are going and what it means for you.
- This is how we will get there ...
