Evidence was once discovered of an ancient, primitive tribe that used just three numbers: one, two and many – a simple life with few or no possessions requires little knowledge of arithmetic. As society has moved on, the number of things to count has increased, out of which there grew a need for better ways to count them.

A spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft® Excel, is a modern solution to the need to manipulate numbers – quickly, easily and accurately. You can use Excel to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers, sort numbers in increasing or decreasing order, find the average of a group of numbers, and identify the largest and smallest numbers in a group. You can also present your numbers in charts or graphs.
