Recognition → Self-esteem → Performance
When people are recognized for their potential, their efforts, and their accomplishments, there is a greater likelihood they will develop into employees who do the following:
Set challenging goals for themselves
Find innovative ways to meet the goals
Overcome setbacks, because they assume they can
Continually seek new opportunities
Enjoy responsibility and managing their own work
Without that recognition, it takes unusually thick skin and exceptional inner drive not to:
Feel inadequate and thus resist challenges
Stick with what is familiar and low risk
Blame oneself when things go wrong (often covered up by blaming others)
Hide mistakes
Look for direction from others
