CHAPTER 29Magic bucket strategy #6: Building a personal brand
In January 2021, five large boxes filled with books landed on my doorstep. This wasn't just any book, this was a book I had written, designed, and had printed over six months. I remember opening the door and feeling an enormous sense of overwhelm.
You see, the year before, during lockdown, I fell pregnant with my third daughter. At the same time, I had also decided to sell my first business and, to make things even harder, I decided I wanted to write a marketing book. Somewhere between running to the bathroom with morning sickness and negotiating the business sale with multiple buyers, I wrote a 40 000-word book within three months. I found a fantastic designer and illustrator who put the finishing touches on the book, and after another three months, the book was ready to be printed.
However, in the same week that it went to print, my business got sold and I was a week away from having the baby. It was incredibly busy. I was exhausted and I wasn't able to appreciate each achievement.
So, when those 500 books landed on my front doorstep, I stood there looking at the boxes, overwhelmed and unable to process what to do.
