A few years ago I took part on the quiz show The Weak­est Link, presented by the formidable TV host Anne Robinson.

I was 40 at the time and challenged myself to do something during the year that was a little bit different to mark what many people regard as a significant age. Appearing on the show was one of those things.

My goal perhaps surprisingly was not to win the show; quizzes and me go together about as well as fried fish and rice pudding, but rather to get the phrase SUMO – “Shut Up, Move On” mentioned at least a couple of times.
