Although there are excellent examples of design in black and white, color can make a difference to the way a message is communicated. This chapter discusses how color can affect meaning, the various ways in which it can be used, and the effects that can be achieved with it.
Color is usually categorized by hue, which is color in its pure form. The primary and secondary colors on the color wheel are hues. The brightness of a color refers to how dark or light it is, so if white is added to a hue it will be brighter (a tint) whereas adding black will make a color darker (a shade).
