Lists

In HTML documents, similar items are best put in a list. List of favorite cars. List of most livable cities. Shopping lists. The HTML specification allows three types of lists and each type can be customized and styled using CSS. In addition, lists can also be nested.

This chapter explains how to work with lists.

Overview

There are three types of lists in the HTML specification:

  • Unordered lists. In an unordered list, each item is not numbered and is marked with a bullet point.
  • Ordered lists. In an ordered list, each item is numbered.
  • Definition lists. A definition list displays pairs of terms and descriptions or other key/value pairs.
