Preface to the English Version
Four years have elapsed since the publication, in France, of Grégory Rolina’s
book detailing the findings of his research on how safety assessments are
prepared at IRSN, the French public institution in charge of assessing nuclear
and radiological risks on behalf of the French public authorities.
The fact that global news coverage has been dominated for the past two
years by the Fukushima Daiichi accident testifies to the value of this book, which
is illustrated with examples that allow the reader to understand, in a very
concrete way, the French method of constructing nuclear safety assessments.
