It is a great pleasure for me to preface this book presenting the results of
research on nuclear facility safety assessments conducted in France, a very
special area of expertise. Through the critical eye of completely independent
experts, assessments examine measures implemented by facility licensees to
control radiological and nuclear risks, and serve to support the decision-making
process of the French nuclear safety authority, the ASN. They are conducted by
