According to Kolassa and Elbert (2009) multiple traumatic events (e.g., related to domestic violence)
inuence the development of PTSD by increasing the fear network activity (block-effect) and there-
fore may affect the severity of the trauma. Moreover, it is assumed that a stressful, uncertain, or
impoverished family environment during childhood may have an inuence on the decreased integ-
rity between emotional (i.e., limbic) and cognitive (i.e., cortical) structures of the brain (Cozolino
