WHO NEEDS IDENTITY?
The education of “global citizens” reveals one problem of modern higher education. No matter
how open the university is, it is always located in a particular state. No matter how diverse the
student body is, there is always one dominant group. In connection with the public versus private
good dilemma, both institutional and governmental policy should approach the issue of identity.
Should students be citizens of the world rst of all, or should they be rather the citizens of the
country of graduation? In other words, in the times of globalization, is identity an issue at all?
