ACC activity is related to the specic type of control when strong cognitive engagement is involved
to solve the conict situation. Two streams of inconsistent information generate the specic situ-
ation that may cause a state of uncertainty and hesitation. Competing information leads to more
complex processing. Botvinick et al. (1999) proved that ACC was activated more strongly in high-
conict situations—the ACC’s activation was observed in the incongruent trial, but when the trial
was preceded by a congruent trial, the activation was more notable compared with the incongruent
